The alleged head of the Chicago "West Side Ring" -- Datqunn Sawyer, 31, of Chicago -- was charged in a federal criminal complaint with sexual trafficking of minors and sexual trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, FBI officials said.

Sawyer was arrested by Chicago police and FBI agents Thursday in the 5300 block of West Potomac Avenue. Federal prosecutors allege that he ran the ring from his home and his mother's home on the West Side.

"The complaint alleges that Sawyer ran the operation from at least March 2009 through last month."

"The FBI further alleges that Sawyer is believed to have advertised his business through the Internet, making extensive use of Craigslist and similar online media, charging $150 to $350 for sexual services."

"During that time, according to the complaint, he is believed to have recruited as many as nine girls who were between the ages of 13 and 17 who, "at Sawyer's behest, engaged in sexual acts for money," the FBI said. They also said that Sawyer would "brand" his prostitutes with a tattoo and used violence, or threats of violence, to enforce his rules."

CNN has been on a "mission" to expose Craigslist as a major vehicle for prostitutes and sex traffickers. Craigslist has recently shut down the "Adult Services" portion of their operation, which was reportedly generating approx. 1/3 of their revenue.

I've never been impressed with Craigslist as a site, and because of all the publicity it gets, I don't trust the people who do use it well enough to participate there.

I used it a couple years ago, in an attempt to help a business associate of mine sell some real estate. The only people that responded had either no money, no credit, or no job.
