A new television advertisement that singles out McDonald's for obesity-related deaths is causing quite the stir.

The ad, by an advocacy group that opposes using animals for research, is to air Thursday mainly on cable TV in the Washington, D.C., area because of what its sponsors say are the high rates of obesity and concentrations of fast-food restaurants in the nation's capital. Not to mention the lobbyists, lawmakers and administration officials who are dealing with food issues related to fighting obesity — a cause that Michelle Obama, the first lady, has championed.

The National Restaurant Association, an industry trade group in Washington, said in a statement: “These types of misleading ads distort the reality that the nation’s restaurants are serving an increasing array of healthful menu choices by focusing on a single menu item.” The pro-vegetarian physicians group, it added, “promotes a limited view of good nutrition.”

Earlier this year, the physicians committee put out a report explaining how federal subsidies have helped a Big Mac cost less than a salad.

Wow. Good on them. But I bet McDonalds comes down hard on these people.

I've been wondering how these people are able to sell everything for $1.00, now I know ....... we're paying for it!

I'm going to start going to fast food chains, just so I can feel like I'm getting my money back!

Check out Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation. It's been out for a while. Good read. He's also featured in the film Food, Inc. Both explain a lot of the same about the subsidies and the effect on what's marketed at us as "food".

LOL! Just don't go TOO often, or you'll end up like the guy in Supersize Me.

No worries about that, I hate FF chains, the comment was just a temporary lapse in sanity.
