Criminal charges are expected to be filed Friday against two-time Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, the result of an investigation into campaign cash allegedly funneled to the woman he had an out-of-wedlock child with.

According to The Associated Press, Edwards's attorney, former White House counsel Gregory Craig, is headed to North Carolina on Friday and federal prosecutors are prepared to file charges. Plea deal discussions are ongoing.

Oh, it's over.

I think it's sad, too - I once believed in this man. But Edwards is not a victim. He dug this hole and buried own his political career and good reputation all by himself.

I totally agree with you, DonnaJ. I, too, wanted Edwards to win the nomination. What a fool I was to be hoodwinked into believing he was what he said he was. Too bad. As you said, he dug this hole he is in all by himself.

What an unbelievable fall for the Edwards family. John Edwards brought this on himself but the biggest tragedy is that Elizabeth Edwards had to live her last years fighting cancer and dealing with this betrayal. I feel for her children who will be having a hard enough time losing her and now dealing with this ...
