Diana Gonzalez, 19, said her estranged husband, Armando Perez, 37, kidnapped her from San Diego City College. For three days, he held her captive. She said he raped her. He threatened to kill her. And he choked her until she passed out.

Immediately, following the attack, Gonzalez reported the abduction to San Diego police. She told a detective Perez had battered her 20 other times. Based on her injuries and her story, the detective determined Gonzalez had been a victim of kidnapping, assault, rape, false imprisonment, spousal abuse and criminal threats. Perez was arrested and the police department submitted the case to the district attorney's office.

The district attorney's office decided not to press charges and Perez was released.

Authorities now believe Perez went back to San Diego City College for Gonzalez a second time.

Her body was found in a campus restroom.

Perez has been charged with her murder and is believed to have fled to Mexico.

The girl is dead, He remains a fugitive and the District Attorney, Bonnie Dumanis, is running for Mayor of San Diego. Read more;

"Diana's father, Jose Gonzalez, only offered a hard stare when asked how he's coping. He said his family's grief is compounded by what happened before his 37-year-old son-in-law allegedly killed his 19-year-old daughter."

"They've made a mistake in not investigating the crime in depth," Jose said. "And they've recognized they made a mistake."

And now the DA is running for mayor. What kind of country are we becoming?

I wonder which side is Republican/Tea in this case? We should all know by now, what Republicans think of NON-RICH people... we can't help you, WE'RE BROKE. Now if you are a millionaire or billionaire, they say we must protect Americans from class warfare...WTF

That is the question that is the underlying premise of the article, ..... nobody is getting it.

The article says; "In this case we were not able to file charges because there was not proof beyond a reasonable doubt," explained District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.

Beyond a reasonable doubt??!! Since when does the DA have to meet the criteria of beyond a reasonable doubt? I thought "probable cause" is all that is needed to issue an arrest warrant. Beyond a reasonable doubt is the criteria for the Jury.

Gwinn welcomes the DA's review. But he says people should understand that domestic violence homicides are 100 percent preventable.

Ummm...bull@!$%#. You can't account for or stop everything.

True, but letting this guy go was like a cop letting someone who failed a breathalyzer test drive out of the checkpoint, not an on-the-spot snap decision to murder with no warning signs.

How about she testifies and he denies it but the jury believes her....happens every day...

    "proof beyond a reasonable doubt"

I thought that's why those charged are called SUSPECTS! It's the court and/or jury, that's supose to go beyond Reasonable doubt for convictions; Not the Police or DA! I smell a cover up here. The question is why? Was Bonnie looking out for her on the lamb 'Clyde'...just asking?

It is odd that the DA, who you'd think would be somewhat familiar with legal proceedings, used a phrase describing the standard that a jury is supposed to use for a guilty verdict in a murder case and not what a DA is supposed to use when deciding whether or not to press charges to begin with.

I suspect that's why she's running for mayor, the DA job seems to be over her head.
