Authorities say the daughter of a pastor is still in critical condition at a Florida hospital, a day after being accidentally shot in the head at a St. Petersburg church.

Investigators say Moises Zambrana was showing his gun in a small closet to another church member interested in buying a firearm. Zambrana reportedly took out the magazine of the Ruger 9mm weapon but did not know there was a bullet in the chamber.

Detectives say one of the men, who is Kelley's boyfriend, was interested in getting a gun. While Zambrana was showing him the safety features, authorities say the gun went off. The bullet went through the wall, and hit Kelley in the head.

Authorities say Zambrana does have a permit to carry his gun and did not break any laws.

So far, no charges have been filed.

"......did not break any laws."

Any reasonably competent gun owner knows you ALWAYS check the chamber when handling a weapon.

IMO, anyone that injures a person as a result of the incorrect handling of a firearm should be charged with reckless endangerment.

"There is a big level of concern 'cause she may or may not survive. But we're all praying for her and, right now, I guess that's the best we can do," said church member Tony Diehl.

If this girl dies, and the nit-wit gun owner is not charged with involuntary manslaughter ..... I may just find myself changing my position regarding the 2nd Amendment.

"I just cant believe that ANY PLACE is a great place to buy a gun...."

I just can't believe there are no laws to insure those that want to exercise their right to bear arms, do so in a responsible manner.

A bullet discharged from a gun that the handler did not no was there, is NOT an accidental shooting. IMO, it's criminal negligence.

It's too bad the bullet didn't go through the gun owners head instead, it would be one less incompetent nit-witted @!$%# that thinks it's OK to play with guns.

Jer', I disagree w/ you on this one.

Accidents do happen. With guns and with everything else in life.

I mean, what if you kill somebody with your car by accident? You get distracted for a second...turn your head...and the next thing you know...BAM!

You hit somebody and they die.

What then? Any resposible car owner knows they need to always pay attention to the road. According to your theory, you should be prosecuted.

I'm just sayin'.....

    Scream,

    Driving a car, something we do everyday, sometimes for hours at a time, gives us thousands of opportunities to make mistakes, but we don't. Well, maybe 1 out of a 100,000 opportunities we do, like maybe hit a curb or even bang up a car. But most people that drive a car never seriously harm anyone.

    Let ask you a question, Scream, when you back out of your driveway, do you USUALLY make sure the kids are out of the way? Or, do you ALWAYS make sure the kids are out of the way?

    It's the same with handling a gun ....... you ALWAYS make sure the chamber is empty.

    Anyway, driving a car is a necessary hazard, playing with guns is dangerous hobby not suited for the careless type.

    Now, because this nit-wit that didn't have enough sense to follow standard protocol, and visually check the chamber of a deadly weapon he had in his hands, this young woman may likely have had her entire life ruined, that's if she's lucky and doesn't die.

    it is against the law to discharge a fire arm so your right on the same page, its just a matter of the politics and if someone wants to be a witness and demand changes.

    Came across a couple more articles about gun owners that didn't know enough to be sure the chamber was empty. Well, one of them did .... he wasn't sure if the chamber was clear, so he pointed it at a wall and pulled the trigger. Result;

    Man Brings Gun to Party, Accidentally Kills 20 Yr. Old Woman

    I found that story while I was seeding this one;

    Sheriff Deputy Accidentally Shoots Wife of Fellow Deputy in Concealed Weapon Class

    Now, I certainly don't think we need to abolish the 2nd amendment, but we do need to do more to insure the safety of people around those that are exercising their 2nd Amendment Rights.
