Well the first round is over, and IMO, Mitt Romney rose to the occasion. Being honest, those of us that thought the President was going to blow Mittens out of the water, got a bit of a surprise with the strength and aggressiveness that Romney showed coming out of gate. The overall substance of the debate was pretty much going over the same old same old we have been hearing for a year and a half, but regarding the overall presentation, Mitt Romney finally showed the voters that he is capable of fighting in the trenches.
So, at this point at least, .... we have a horse-race. To be fair, the President was obviously rusty in the debating ring, not having been in a debate for four years, but that factor gave Romney an opportunity to shine, which he did quite well. Going into this debate, Americans felt, according to some polls, that President Obama was a 2 to 1 favorite to win ..... they were wrong. If Mittens had done no more than hold his own, as the Challenger it would be considered a win for him. However Mitt Romney did more than hold his own, he surprised us by being aggressive and more detailed than expected. Romney also showed he actually does have the ability to connect with the voters.
Of course this is only my opinion. I'm sure the NBC News crowd will be saying Obama won the debate, just as the Fox News folks will be saying Romney is the winner. I'm a CNN type of guy and I would love to say it was a tie ..... but I can't. We'll just have to wait for the next debate, when I'm sure hope the President will bring out the big guns.
