In the thread for a poll I have in an article regarding Wednesday nights debate, John Franklin Mason posted the following comment;
Obama took a dive. Something is going on.
I responded by saying it is an interesting observation, and something I have been thinking about.
Consider this; If Obama blew Romney out of the water, as he is certainly capable of doing, it could have been a death knell for Romney's campaign. Once the GOP sees the handwriting on the wall and concludes there is no way Romney can win the election, they are going to stop spending money on him and throw all of their resources into the House and Senate races.
The Koch brothers and others that are feeding the Super PACs are not doing it because they're patriots, those huge campaign donations are thought of as investments. Karl Rove and the rest of the RNC are political realist and clever strategist, they know how to read the tea leaves and will know when it is time to pull the plug and stop investing in a doomed Romney campaign. If Obama is going to get a second term, it is critical to the Right that Obama does not have control of both houses of Congress.
Barack Obama is also a clever political strategist, he knows it's one thing if the GOP fails to regain the White House, but if they also lose both houses of Congress, their game is up, at least for the next two years. So it is in the Presidents' best interest to keep the race as close as possible until the final stretch. That way the GOP will keep supporting Mittens, in the hopes he can pull it out, rather than divert funds to the House and Senate races.
The President also has to be concerned about his base becoming too complacent, and not think he has the election in the bag. He needs the political investors, and rank and file donations of the Left to continue financing his campaign and the DNC, so the Democrats will be able to retain control of the Senate and, hopefully, regaining control of the House.
Remember, Bill Clinton used to be the best political strategist in the country, that is until he matched wits with Barack Obama. Clinton was unable to out maneuver Obama and Hillary lost the primary.
So I agree with Mr. Mason, something is going on, ....lots of things are going on.
(I put a little poll up there, please cast your vote and post a comment.)
